Replanting Wagner Ranch- Feb. 2010

A GPS-enabled tractor replants a field that has been laying fallow for the past couple of years. As the tractor drives, it discs up the ground, and a worker inserts a new tree into the ground at pre-determined points along the path. The tractor is GPS controlled so rows are planted exactly straight. A worker follows behind the tractor to ensure the young tree has been inserted correctly, then prunes it down to the optimum starting point for a new almond tree. Over 1000 trees were planted in this field, including four different varieties: Nonpareil, Carmel, Aldrich, and Butte. The young trees will be maturing over the next few years, and will produce their first almonds within years 3-5. More photos of the process, and the finished field can be seen on our website @ the following link: bit.ly
